What I Believe

Above all, I believe in the power of education and storytelling to shape society. My values, my priorities, and my strengths were moulded by mentors who believed in me and invested in me. How could I not carry that forward in my life and career? A personal strength that I bring to my work in Science Communications is my passion for empowering people who are curious about the natural world and seek answers to HOW and WHY.

My breadth of research and teaching experience, particularly in convergent subjects, allow me to write stories and research articles across many scientific disciplines. I have previously taught courses in integrated science & engineering, drug discovery & development, pharmacology, biodiversity, environmental science, climate change, ecology, and life sciences. I have a passion for translating innovative medical research into inspiring content for a range of audiences.

If you examine my research career through the lens of ecological niche, then you could rightfully conclude that I am a generalist. Before convergence science became a buzzword, I have always found myself drawn to the areas where different scientific disciplines overlap.

Science literacy requires the continual acquisition of knowledge and the ability to integrate knowledge from different disciplines into one’s worldview. A convergence perspective has led me to explore the world across all levels of organization in nature, from the global scale to the nanoscale.
